Staff will learn LSC’s immigrant eligibility rules including how to determine if a client is eligible for our services based upon immigration status and the anti-abuse rules. They will also learn about emergency exceptions, supporting documentation requirements and immigrant eligibility compliance in Legal Server during COVID.

About the Faculty

    Shelly Agarwala (Speaker)

    Shelly Agarwala graduated from George Washington University Law School and completed her undergraduate studies at Cornell University. Shelly also has a Masters in Gender and International Development from the University of Warwick in the U.K. Prior to entering law school, Shelly worked in New Delhi, India with a feminist organization. After leaving India, Shelly worked for several months at Southall Black Sisters, a domestic violence community based organization in London, U.K. After law school, Shelly clerked for the Honorable Darryl Dean Donohue in St Croix, United States Virgin Islands. More recently, she was the shelter attorney at Safe Horizon Domestic Violence Law Project from July 2005 until April 2010. During that time, she represented domestic violence shelter residents in both the Family and Integrated Domestic Violence courts, and in their public benefits' matters. Shelly joined Staten Island Legal Services as the supervising attorney for their Family Law Unit. Now, she is the Director of Intake Services at Legal Services NYC - Legal Support Unit.
